Team Sky's Geraint Thomas

Known as a track cyclist [and certainly living up to that reputation with numerous Olympic and World gold medals to his name] earlier in his career Geraint has transformed himself into a brilliant road cyclist, much like Sir Bradley Wiggins before him. As a domestique for Team Sky he has been helping Chris Froome take a substantial lead in this year's Tour de France. We may even see him as the leader of a team in the near future and going for the overall victory himself.

This is a portrait of him I was commissioned to shoot a few years ago whilst he was still track racing. Shot in an impromptu studio in the corner of the National Cycling Centre, Manchester on my 5x4 field camera. Something Gearing was a little intrigued by -

The Col du Tourmalet 2015

Tomorrow the Tour de France works its way up through the Pyrenees and the infamous Col du Tourmalet. In 2012 I hiked up the climb with my 5x4 field camera to document the race. I also got to watch Team Sky help, British cyclist, [Sir] Bradley Wiggins get safely up that mountain and a few weeks later be crowned the winner of the race. This year Team Sky's Chris Froome is currently wearing the maillot jaune [yellow jersey] so tomorrow should be a good day's viewing.

Here's a few images from 2012 -

Sir John Hegarty

I had the privilege of photographing Sir John Hegarty yesterday for Think Quarterly. It was an absolute joy listening to him talk about the future of advertising and he had some pretty radical ideas for the next generation of creatives. The film has been processed so off to the darkroom to get some prints done as the deadline is very tight.
